Putting Safety First
July 30, 2025
By nature, solar installation work is dangerous. The majority of the work is on rooftops, of all different types, heights, and pitches. Weather also a major factor. Roofs, especially metal ones, can be very slippery when wet. Early and late in the season ice and snow can be a problem, and this time of year the extreme heat can be very dangerous. Wind and wind gusts are a huge issue, solar panels are essentially giant metal sails while being installed.
Safety is a hugely important part of our ethos at Skylit. Being safe on the job is important at any work place, but with the inherent risks in this line of work we are committed to putting safety first.
Safety Training is paramount
We first became COR certified in 2019, and participate in a safety audit annually where we receive high marks and excellent feedback. A key part of this is making sure our crew is up to date on safety training with numerous safety courses relevant to their work, as well as first aid.
The idea behind this training is to make sure our people are prepared for situations out of the ordinary. Things can happen quickly on a job site. Weather can change, incidents can happen, and being prepared gives everyone the best chance of a positive outcome.
Expect the Unexpected
Yesterday, there was a motor vehicle accident near our warehouse. Our crew, including one who is a first responder, were immediately on scene and jumped to help navigate the scary situation and assist in a calm, helpful manner.
Our dedicated crew approaches their work this way as well. Thoughtful, resourceful, professional. Our Skylit team is truly the best.
